A decade into their career and The Black Keys are running on all cylinders. After winning an armful of Grammys for their last record, the new-school garage-rock duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are once again joined by producer and sonic mastermind Danger Mouse for a glitzy, monster pop blowout. Sounding like a juke joint party set on shuffle, "El Camino" is another blast from one of the most reliable duos around!

Even a casual listener to KCRW’s music programming in the past six months has undoubtedly heard this Belgian/Australian musician’s smash hit single, “Somebody That I Used to Know.” It has become a world-wide hit, even racking up record numbers of views of KCRW’s live session with the artist, despite the album’s delay in hitting us stores. The album is finally out domestically, packed with other great danceable indie rock selections, and we’re happy to be able to share it with our members.

In spirit with KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, this collection's diversity of North and South American and Caribbean artists offers an impressive sonic census of the Hispanic, African, pop and Brazilian influences that characterize that genre. Latin music really sizzles in this live context, whether it's the soothing sonorities of Omara Portuondo's bolero 'No Me Vayas a Enganar,' the Chicano rock of Los Lobos's 'Carabina 30-30,' or Ozomatli's Spanglish rap on 'Saturday Night.' If anything, this collection shows how rooted this music is in it's acoustic, unplugged traditions, and how revolutionary it can be in its electronic expansions to other musical forms.

Novalima are truly an international band. Formed in 2001 by four Peruvian musicians based around the world, from Lima to Barcelona to London and Hong Kong, Novalima bring the Afro-Peruvian sound into the 21st century with an electronic twist. "Karimba" is their first album of new material in nearly four years, which is reason enough to celebrate. But it also happens to be their grooviest record yet, with enough irresistible beats to get even the most stubborn listener craving the dancefloor.

Perhaps the hardest working band in show business, hip-hop band The Roots return with their 11th studio album. Once again tackling the heavy issues, the group has created an existential concept album about the life of a young man living a life of urban poverty. Given that grim subject matter, The Roots and their collaborators (who include Bilal, Sufjan Stevens & many others) still manage to create a powerful listening experience that works equally as a narrative and a head-nod-worthy musical experience. Challenging, yet compulsive listening.

The Saharan musicians of Tinariwen return with their most compelling record to date. Recorded during a three-week session in the rocky desert near a town in south-eastern Algeria, Tassili is the band at their most authentic. Largely substituting acoustic guitars & unamplified percussion for their usual electric instruments, Tinariwen are joined by members of TV on the Radio, Wilco & the Blind Boys of Alabama for a record that perfectly blends old & new sounds for a powerful listening experience.

Rock & roll hall of famer Tom Waits is like no other. Singer, songwriter, actor, raconteur, Waits does it all with characteristic uniqueness. His latest album (his 17th!) Is his first collection of all new material in seven years, and is filled with the same mixture of bone-rattling brawlers and tear-jerking ballads as he has given to the music world for nearly four decades. A welcome return from a legendary talent! Featuring the KCRW favorite, "Bad as Me."

Wilco can make a strong claim for being the quintessential American rock band of the 21st century. Their latest album, their eighth overall, only confirms this statement, with numerous appearances on year-end top 10 lists and a Grammy nomination for best rock album to boot! Bridging the space between rootsy Americana and heady art-rock, leader Jeff Tweedy and his compatriots find ever-increasingly dynamic ways around pop music. Features the KCRW favorites, "I Might" and "Dawned on Me."
