Crystal Stilts: Artist You Should Know

I remember first reading about Crystal Stilts some time in the late part of 2007.  It was on the Seattle-based indie focused blog Three Imaginary Girls.  They were recommending this band from New York that had been recommended to them by Kip Berman, the front man of soon to be indiepop break out stars The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.  He described it as “What it might have sounded like if Joy Division were an indiepop band.”

KCRW DJs Anthony Valadez and Eric J. Lawrence, and opener Crystal Stilts will be getting the crowd pumped for a new headliner next Friday, May 6th at the Natural History Museum for the May installment of First Fridays.
Moving Units was announced yesterday as the headliner to rock the Diorama Hall this month. Their brand of funky, dance-punk has been a favorite of some of the DJs here at the station. I was sad to have missed them out in the dessert for their Coachella set on …

The Pinker Tones had to cancel their appearance at First Fridays at the Natural History Museum tonight and now the Bay Area’s The Fresh and Onlys are on board as headliners. The San Francisco Chronicle says frontman Tim Cohen’s music “evokes the early era of rock ‘n’ roll with hints of psychedelic pop.” Sounds lovely to me!
Find out more about them here and watch the video below for a sample.

The resident DJ for First Fridays at the Natural History Museum, KCRW’s Anthony Valadez, got a great crowed going during his DJ set this past Friday, with some help from DJ Chuck P. There was even some break dancing!
Down the hall, local band Abe Vigoda and Virginia’s Wild Nothing ended their national tour together and showed the crowd what time on the road can do for a band’s live performance (good things!).
Check out Anthony’s video below as well as photos from Jeremiah Garcia.

Who knew the Natural History Museum could be sexy? I guess that’s what you get when you mix giant dinosaur bones, Little Dragon, and KCRW.
The 2011 season of First Fridays at the Natural History Museum arrived on the scene with a boom – thanks in large part to Anthony Valadez, resident DJ for this year’s series of swank-worthy get togethers. Always a mad man on the turntables, Anthony provided an impressive soundtrack amid the huge replicas …

KCRW DJs Anthony Valadez and Garth Trinidad will join Swedish band Little Dragon as the musical talent to kick off the Natural History Museum’s First Fridays series in 2011. The show, on January 7, 2011, will have one more musical act that is yet to be announced.
Little Dragon is a longtime KCRW favorite – they made their U.S. debut here and played our Halloween Ball last year—and it will be fascinating to see them create their soulful electro music in this venue.
Last year, every single show in the series …
