Savvy fans filed in early at the Hammer Museum for last night’s Also I Like to Rock show. I’m pretty sure we all knew the secret, that this show was going to be something really special.
While you couldn’t see endless hordes of girls donning “Slave Leia” costumes in the crowd like at certain other events happening in SoCal last weekend (I’m looking at you, Comic Con) we were treated to something even more significant: a night of free, live, uniquely Californian music.

As far as I’m concerned, summer started this past Thursday night at The Hammer.
Last year my summer didn’t feel official until the first Also I Like to Rock concert was underway. That was partially due to the bizarrely chilly start summer had, but it was also because there is something decidedly summer-ish about sitting in the Hammer Museum’s outdoor courtyard taking in some live music.

KCRW is partnering with the Hammer Museum again for the free, all ages music series Also I Like to Rock, which takes place at the Hammer on four consecutive Thursdays in July
The night kicks off at 7pm with DJ sets by KCRW’s own selectors followed by two band performances, including headliners Graffiti6, The Soft Pack, Grouplove, and The Henry Clay People. The full line up is below.
Admission is on a first come, first served basis AND the museum galleries stay open late so you can take advantage of the tunes …
