February will feature the entrancing, hypnotic and slightly gothic tunes of The Soft Moon alongside Light Asylum (February 3) while March will spotlight the unmistakable vocals of songstress Zola Jesus, who graced the Hollywood Bowl stage earlier this year (March 2).

I just got the scoop that more advance tickets will be released tomorrow for the final First Fridays show of 2011 with indie collective Gayngs and opener Dirty Beaches. First Fridays is the fantastic music series at the Natural History Museum (presented by KCRW!) where you can enjoy some of the best bands around in a truly unique setting.
Tickets are usually available at the door as well but, if you’re anything like me, you like to plan ahead. Especially when a great band like Gayngs comes to town.

I remember first reading about Crystal Stilts some time in the late part of 2007. It was on the Seattle-based indie focused blog Three Imaginary Girls. They were recommending this band from New York that had been recommended to them by Kip Berman, the front man of soon to be indiepop break out stars The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. He described it as “What it might have sounded like if Joy Division were an indiepop band.”

KCRW DJs Anthony Valadez and Eric J. Lawrence, and opener Crystal Stilts will be getting the crowd pumped for a new headliner next Friday, May 6th at the Natural History Museum for the May installment of First Fridays.
Moving Units was announced yesterday as the headliner to rock the Diorama Hall this month. Their brand of funky, dance-punk has been a favorite of some of the DJs here at the station. I was sad to have missed them out in the dessert for their Coachella set on …

The resident DJ for First Fridays at the Natural History Museum, KCRW’s Anthony Valadez, got a great crowed going during his DJ set this past Friday, with some help from DJ Chuck P. There was even some break dancing!
Down the hall, local band Abe Vigoda and Virginia’s Wild Nothing ended their national tour together and showed the crowd what time on the road can do for a band’s live performance (good things!).
Check out Anthony’s video below as well as photos from Jeremiah Garcia.

The Natural History Museum showed everyone last Friday night that they plan to keep everybody guessing. They proved that no First Fridays can be missed without missing out.
As always, the Hall of African Mammals offered its wow factor with KCRW DJ Aaron Byrd following DJ Anthony Valadez on the turntables. Aaron always brings a unique flavor to the places he DJs and his soulful rhythms brought new life to the crowd, who come with high expectations for musical exploration.
