KCRW Music Director Jason Bentley will provide the soundtrack to the opening party for a new exhibition Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth at the Fowler Museum. The event on January 9 from 6 to 10pm is open to the public with a $10 donation.

Aside from sharing a name with one of our favorite Australian musicians, Nick Cave creates extraordinary works of art from scavenged ordinary materials. This is the largest presentation of work by the Chicago-based artist, featuring 35 of his Soundsuits— multi-layered, mixed-media sculptures named for the sounds made when the “suits” are worn.  His virtuosic constructions incorporate yarn, sequins, bottle caps, vintage toys, rusted iron sticks, hair, and more.  The Fowler is the first LA-area museum to feature Cave’s work and the only Southern California venue for this traveling exhibition.
